Squirrel Defense

At one point in our long years of living here, a red squirrel got into the walls of our house through a narrow protected opening under the eaves right here:

Under the front eave above the front porch

When we repaired and closed up the squirrel hole — after making sure the squirrel was out! — Garr Linscott our roofer suggested that we stuff bundled, bunched-up old metal screen material into the opening. Squirrels do not like metal and will not bite into it.

I put that on my to do list and it did not get done. This past month I heard pitter patters up near that spot and sure enough a grey squirrel was checking it out.

Time for action!

We set up the ladder.

Got the screening….

…and something to push the bunched up screening up into the opening.

Shined a light on the matter.

And pushed the bunched up screening into the opening.

Lets hope the squirrels stay stymied.

And we stay on the ground.
