The Cars of 41 Wren Street

Cars played an outsized role in the lives my brothers and I lived at 41 Wren Street in West Roxbury, MA. We remember them distinctly.

The interesting thing is that car particulars and color played almost no role in my father’s choices. Instead, it was all by availability and whatever offered basic transportation. The color of dad’s cars occurred by the accident of availability rather than selection.

Highway Leasing:            “Jack, here’s one for $1,900 in great shape just off lease.”

Dad:                                 “Looks great, I’ll give you $1,750.”

Turns out this 1969 Cutlass Supreme happened to come in red and as a convertible! … an accident of availability rather than choice.

1969 Cutlass S Convertible

As with the 1970  Green and black vinyl top Olds 98..

So too, the 1977 Chevy Caprice Classic Coupe (blue),

Dodge Colt Wagon (gold).

Dodge Colt / Mitsubishi Wagon, 1980

Even the 1963 robins egg blue Rambler 660 wagon!

Along with all the company cars.

All assigned.

Only when American Motors instituted company subsidized Leasing (vs. Company Cars)  did time he / they selected colors.

Hence the 1966 aqua Rambler Rogue,

and the 1968 Red Javelin SST,

Left to his own devices, my father also ended up with some real bad choices, like this unmentionable one with “.. fine Corinthian leather…”

Nuff said for this recollections on the cars of 41 Wren.
